Re: Lost LPT1

Tim Baehr created an efficient workaround, so his name is one term to
look for. Also look for fax.pgm, wd.pgm and word.pgm, various versions
of the workaround. Works fine in W98SE (but not at all in XP).
Good luck

Under the heading of dumb and dumber, I uninstalled a program called System Suite and suddenly lost my printer port, LPT1 (W98SE). Tried everything. Reinstalled drivers, removed port and rebooted so WIN could reinstall. Changed BIOS to ECP. Nothing has worked. I either deleted or corrupted some file that affects LPT1.

Meanwhile, just to have a printer, I also installed the machine's
(HP2200D) USB connection (you can connect either way) and driver and I
can print when that is set as the default. If I'm indeed toast and can't
get LPT1 back and have to live with USB, can I print from XYDos. I
searched for the workarounds in the list but did not see anything
definitive. If someone remembers the post(s) and can point the way I'd
be grateful.
