According to the binary rules of VA$DT, a value of "8" should represent eXPanded
mode with NoMarkers turned on. That is a logical incongruity, of course; but if
NoMarkers prevails in the current alternate formatted mode, and you then toggle
into eXPanded mode (with func TG or TP), VA$DT will be "8". In the case of NE/8,
this allows you to open a NEw file in eXPanded mode, which, when toggled into a
any formatted mode (WG, WZ, SP, whatever), will display in NoMarkers format.
It works, too.
