Re: NTVDM.exe has encountered a problem

Jon:

Quoting Jon P :
After a while--which may be 90 seconds or 7-8 minutes--I get the message "NTVDM.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close" ...
I've encountered this problem at odd intervals ever since I started
using Win XP. (I can't recall if it happened under NT as well.) Dashed
if I know what triggers it. I have a vague sense that it's somehow
linked to XPL routines that shell to DOS or write data to disk in the
background, but I can't make it happen on demand. It feels like a bug
in Editor or NTVDM (or both), although the fact that it happens
frequently on one machine of yours suggests there may be a hardware
connection. My "solution" is to restart XyWrite, but that's no answer
if the program is crashing every 5 minutes. Wish I could be more
helpful.
One thought: How do you launch XyWrite? Is it running under CMD.EXE or
COMMAND.COM? Whichever one it is, try switching. E.g., to use
COMMAND.COM, launch with COMMAND.COM /C EDITOR.EXE/e2048 (or whatever
your normal configuration is). A long shot, but worth a try.
