Memory problems?

In XyDOS 4.018, I'm having problems that I think are with memory
limitations, but I don't see why it should be a memory problem, and I get
no "out of memory" error message.
The program below, which I have tested on a "clean" load of Xy with a
minimal startup.int, generates the problem. The program CAlls the 7216-byte
file named "test.txt," DeFines the whole file, and stores it into save/get
01. Then it deletes the DeFined block, and attempts to put it back via the
s/g, and then display on the command line the message "I put it in".
When I run the program, I get "I put it in" on the command line, but only
one Greek character shows in the file instead of the 7216 characters that
should have been there.
Test.txt is attached (I've changed all the file's alphabetic characters to
x's to disguise the names that are in the original, but this file still
gives the same problem).

Help would be greatly appreciated.
