Re: indexing puzzle

Kerala

I use Xy4Dos to index the occasional special issues of the South African
Journal of Economic History.

The most recent one (Vol 14, Sep 2000), was 340 pages with 100527
words in 14 articles. I prefer working with a file per article.

I also use CORRECT to mark the words I want indexed and then do the
phrases manually with a battery of search and changes.

The index trick, I have found, is to merge all the files into one document (in
this case 647123 bytes) and then run the index extract routine.

I have found, however, that the occasional indexed word on the first or last
line of a page will appear in the index as being on the previous or next
page. The occurrence is very small and a manual check of first and last
lines sorts out the problem fairly quickly.
