Not really a reply, Steve, but a comment on your explanation of RAM
reformation. A proof that this is precisely what's happening is that you can't
obtain the "gift" twice in a row. But you don't need to shell to DOS:
toggling the memory menu (func ME) generally grabs whatever extra memory is
lying around; Show Windows (func SW) usually does the same thing, but isn't as
reliable as ME (a convenient two-birds-with-one-stone programming trick is to
use ME to force a screen refresh while recapturing unused memory).
