I'm having trouble using  for what I want.

The problem is that ENTER has assigned to it:
28=Q8$H

where $H is my U2 version of $X.
I did the following little test program, and when I enter just the regular "a" I get displayed at the bottom of the file ">a<" (without the quotes) as I would expect. And when I hit the numpad Enter I get ">[cr][lf]<" as I would expect. But when I hit the regular Enter, I get . . . nothing, just the "><". I looked at it with LIST.COM, and there's nothing between the ><.
