converted (subverted) Xywrite file

I am using Xy 4.018 in DOS under Windows 98 SE, in a PC running at 633 mHz.
My 15-year-old updated address file in Xy somehow got converted to a .pst
file, which only shows up binary code. My only backup is quite old (gulp).
Can anyone clue me as to whether and how I can reconvert it to the original
Xywrite, or at least to .txt or .rtf format?
