Same question again about XYdos

I' m working with xydos 4.018 on an old small portable NECV30
CPU and MS-DOS 5.0

Question 1

With the command
VA $DT=2
the result is 2
With the command
DEFAULT DT=1
or
DEFAULT DT=xx
the result is always 2

if I comment out

to save memory,
the system, after some keystroke, hangs

Question 3
The Command Reference Guide, pag 3.74 NOTE#7
tells about location of DICT.SPL
Is this true also for WIN 95 ?
