I disagree. I like the fact that I can edit in WYSIAWYG, when appropriate, or
in straight character mode; use menus or command line. Signature wasn't
terribly well crafted; XyWrite IV is as speedy as III+, although it takes more
memory. It is also much easier to program and build custom editing tools than
III+ ever was.

Fairly easily, too. I'm drifting in the direction of giving Clearlook (for
OS/2) a try. It says its documents are Object constructs. Looks to be a fairly
interesting tool, perhaps.
