Wow! thanks, Emery, for a very helpful dissertation. Also for the
references; I'm often asked (e.g., at a museum with friends, or when
someone has gotten a print of a medieval MS for a Christmas card) to
translate, and find myself stymied by the abbreviations.
The period after "et" was a typo; didn't even see it. Any thoughts on the
disctinctions among i.e., viz., and sc.? In usage, I mean; I know the
derivation and lexical meaning.
