Re: Another new VDOSXY - clipboard

Carl and Kari, I appreciate all your help.

Kari, I would need a step-by-step with NIRCMD. I think that was underlying Carl's CLIP frame that was working in Win7 under XP Mode, but if there is a way to make it work with VDos please elaborate.

Meanwhile, in VDos, my keyboard file is apparently a house of cards. My Helpkey assignment is not working. It is CTRL-SHIFT-0 (zero):

11=NOXHJM(,2,.,P,r,s,C,M,l,i,n,e,)

If I copy exactly the same thing as 12=NOXHJM(,2,.,P,r,s,C,M,l,i,n,e,)
or 13=NOXHJM(,2,.,P,r,s,C,M,l,i,n,e,), the Function keys all shift by five places, i.e., F1 does what F6 did. No other changes in the .kbd file.

Also, at one point CTRL-T, which I had mapped to go to the thesaurus Wordfinder, instead went to choosing a typeface (format triangles). Right, T,  typeface but....why now? Solved with replacement (older) .kbd file.

At the moment, with the VCLIP.frm that Carl graciously sent me copied into XYWWWEB.U2, I can copy from Windows clipboard into XY files  (CTRL-V), but not in the other direction (CTRL-C from XY text  followed by CTRL-V into Notepad).

Key assignments are cut-and-pasted from VCLIP.ME:

; Copy
46=NOBXs,a,d,/,n,v, ,c,:,\,v,c,l,i,p,.,t,x,t,Q2BXw,a,i,t,Q2BXd,o,s,/,n,v,/,x,/,z, ,/,c, ,c,m,d,.,e,x,e, ,/,c, ,s,t,a,r,t,/,m,i,n, ,%,v,d,o,s,d,i,r,%,v,c,l,i,p,.,b,a,t,Q2

;Paste
47=NOBXd,o,s,/,n,v,/,x,/,z, ,/,c, ,c,m,d,.,e,x,e, ,/,c, ,s,t,a,r,t,/,m,i,n, ,%,v,d,o,s,d,i,r,%,v,c,l,i,p,.,b,a,t, ,p,Q2BXp,Q2BXm,e, ,c,:,\,v,c,l,i,p,.,t,x,t,Q2

This is actually not so bad, because Windows Clipboard---> XY is what I need most often. Still, both ways wouldn't hurt.

Carl, I emailed you offlist about the attachment--somewhere between freelists and Yahoo it disappeared.

But in the meantime...the NOJM2 key assignments make Win7 go crazy. When I put them in, the function key assignments changed in the same way that gave me  problems the last time I tried VDos on Win7..

This may be a particular Windows 7 Pro 64 quirk. I think that changing just those two keys mysteriously added +5 to the Fn key numbers, so F1 acts like  F6, etc. Luckily  F10  (as in F5 + 5) can access the command line.

Whereas the longer key assignments in VCLIP.ME did give me Paste capabilities from the Windows clipboard into XY documents, which is what I need most often.

Also, XY in VDOS completely crashed--I think with the screwy F5--so I had to turn off the computer. I am changing back to the longer key assignments from VCLIP.ME for the moment.

And pardon my ignorance, but can you or someone tell me again how to assign the Helpkey? What I thought was assigned doesn't seem to work any more.

Thanks. I think we are actually one glitch away from a perfect VDosXY environment.

Been ages since I checked my instructions on this, but ...
try this.
If you have a frame called VCLIP* in your U2 file, delete it
and
substitute the routine in the attached file, VCLIP.FRM. Once
you've
edited U2, do NOT SAve it! Instead, command
LOADHELP, then
ABort the file.

The KBD assignments are simple:

; Copy
46=NOJM2,.,v,c,l,i,p,c,Q2

; Paste
46=NOJM2,.,v,c,l,i,p,p,Q2

Fingers crossed.

Needless to say, Paste should be assigned to a different key
than
Copy:

; Copy
46=NOJM2,.,v,c,l,i,p,c,Q2

; Paste
47=NOJM2,.,v,c,l,i,p,p,Q2

Jon,
I am sure that with some good advice from knowledgeable friends and
patience you can make VCLIP work. I would just like remind that there is
an easier way. Working on the same file using two editors in tandem
provides you with the advantages of both. XyWrite gives you the familiar
keyboard and programming, EditPad (Pro or Lite) gives you clipboard
support and 64-bit power for handling very large files and an expanded
mode with colors (Pro only). You can configure EditPad to automatically
load any changes saved in XyWrite (Preferences, Open files,
Automatically reload the active file if it was modified on disk). In Xy,
you need a refresh command (AB – CA sequence).

An alternative way would be to use NirCmd clipboard facilities
(http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/nircmd.html) and a dedicated clipboard
window in Xy hardcoded to read the clipboard output file saved to disk.

These method are very basic, simpler to set up, and provide a robust
solution.
