RTF conversion and

For the first time, I've had a request from an editor to convert my
XyWrite file to RTF. I wrote the text in XY3, but took it into XY4 and
made a few adjustments by hand, then did the conversion using the menus in
XY4. The file was dandy and printed beautifully from XY4, so no problems
there, of course. About the RTF converter, I was dubious, but I have to
admit I'm not familiar with the RTF format.

Because I'm a nice guy, I test new things before I inflict them on other
people. To my amazement, when I took the converted file to a Macintosh
and opened it in Word, the thing basically worked. Only one problem, and
it's weird: everywhere that I had an (indent paragraph, usually I
use for block quotations), Word has about 20 blank "pages" that
can't be deleted. The block quotation has also vanished (the text resumes
where the command takes effect. Since this editor is anxious to
have his RTF file, my instinct is to go back to my original XY4 file and
simply delete all the commands, perhaps tagging the quotations for
indentation. (This bit of manual work isn't much for the editor to do for
five block quotations within his preferred word processor.) I'm writing
to find out if anyone knows about this problem or has invented a less
resigned solution than mine. Given that the footnotes came through fine,
a simple IP is an odd thing for the converter to flake out on, at least
vis-a-vis Word.

Yours,
Carlo

p.s. Word read the file same way under OS9 and OSX, in Word 5.0 and in
whatever the latest OSX version for Mac is--same blank pages.
