To each his own. His proposal certainly works. I guess I
disagree mainly with the characterization of FILEINFO's date
retrieval as a "kludge". There are lots of over-the-top kludges
in U2 (one might also call them inventive solutions, if so
inclined), but FILEINFO at least uses entirely native facilities
of XyWrite. I think it's a pretty straightforward routine.

No, I don't use DocInfo. The main reason is that I am
constantly knocking the terminal EOF character off XyWrite files
(for one reason or another) with ZAP26, and DocInfo stuff just
gets in the way. I don't like that it is hidden and
anti-WYSIWYG. I also think it's just unnecessary -- a.k.a.
baggage. I travel light.
