I used to build my own systems in the past but not any more. The
offerings of used engineering workstations are simply too cost-effective
and powerful to pass by. And the motherboards and overall integration
are better than what you can get by doing it yourself and buying
expensive parts. But if you are fond of tinkering, then of course that
is another matter. (To do an exploratory comparison of specs and prices,
just enter "HP workstation" or similar on Ebay).

I am building, not buying a PC.  I will be replacing the motherboard, processor and memory with faster versions that support SATA3 and USB3. I built a quiet PC many years ago and simply update components as necessary.  Commercial offerings have never offered what I want.
