Re: Portable Xy4 made easy

Hi Carl,

This question is for another user that I try to help out, from time
to time. Does this -- or any other portable approach -- lend itself
to Xy-3, or only to 4 ?

In any case, I look forward to checking this out shortly. It seemed
to me that it also ought to be possible for the Path info to be
queried for and filled in at runtime, even if it wasn't always going
to be the same info.

I've got a feeling it will be tremendously more difficult to do
anything like this for NB, but for that the best approach might be
to use VM Thinapp, or whatever it is that creates the PAF-type
portable apps. Those are by far the best type of portable Win apps
I've encountered, and in fact I'm typing this from within Portable
FireFox 1301. Such things might have seemed out of reach not very
long ago, but this week you can find a 64Gb thumb drive at Fry's
for $30. (While it might not be large enough for some of the larger
Win apps -- something like Open Office comes to mind -- I already
have a self-booting 16G thumb drive with a whole bunch of portable
apps on it, which has proven quite useful.)
