I did that - on a system whose k6-2 motherboard has an integrated sound
card & an Award Bios - and found that it's enough to type the ^g to get
a beep from the speaker - no 'echo' or Enter required. Win 98se.

In a dos box, xy4 also beeps fine.

Under msdos6, beeps emerge at the dos command line but not from xy3.
