RE: WinXP

Ed,

You might find out that your Windows 98 disc doesn't work on your new
computer. Mine only works with my HP Pavillion 6330, and if I change the
motherboard, or the chip, it won't work there either.

(Personally, if that happened to me, I'd buy a new copy of Win98 and sue HP
and Microsoft in small claims court for the cost.)

This raises the question of, when does your old computer become a new
computer?

According to Microsoft, my Win98 is licensed to 1 computer only, and if I
change 3 major components -- e.g., add a hard drive, CD-ROM, and backup
tape -- it's a new computer, and I am a pirate unless I buy a new copy of
Win98.

The next time I set up a new computer, it will be with a dual boot OS, and
one of those OSs will be Linux.
