Re: New Windows installer for vDos-lfn

Hi Kari,

Thanks for retrying the installer. I am a little surprised to read that the newer version makes no change regarding config.txt and autoexec.txt, because they are indeed copied to the newly-established destination directory on my PC. In this case I decided to change the way the installer copies the two files. In addition, now if you choose Yes to replace the two files, your old files will be renamed config.old and autoexec.old instead of simply being overwritten. You can try the updated version and see if it works on your PC now. Thanks.

I am currently (re)trying to produce the window size issue as you mentioned. I will post a reply regarding this soon.

Hello Wengier,

Thank you for your reply.

About the installer, I retried it (downloaded from:
http://ow.ly/lFfN3006Vmk), but still no change when there is no previous
folder (I renamed the installed folder to make room for a new installation).

The window size issue is real with 43x80. I have frame off in both
installations, and when I superpose the windows, the situation is
evident. Both windows match horizontally, and there are the same number
of lines, I am using the same font and running the same NB3 (a Xy3-type
variant) installation in both, but the vDosLFN window is not as tall as
the vDosXy window. They are aligned at the bottom. The fonts are
compressed vertically in the vDosLFN window, and their shapes are not
normal.

However, when I change the window to 40x80, the font display is ok in
vDosLFN, and the window size is approx. the same as in vDosXy 43x80. On
the other hand, vDosXy makes the window wider than with the 43x80
setting in this case, but maintains font shapes.

Now then, it seems that this boils down to how vDosLFN interacts with
NB3 or XY line setting SL=43, which is the same in all of the above.

As regards memory, the 4DOS shell explains the difference.

Best regards,
