Screen streaks when running Xy3+ in full screen mode in Windows

My set-up: Running XyWrite 3+ in full screen mode under Windows XP
Professional on a Dell Inspiron 8200.

What happens: When I type, randomly scattered dark streaks appear on the
screen for a split second. (I have configured XyWrite to show a colored
(grayish-blue) background.)

Any suggestions on a fix?

I should say that I (provisionally?) gave up on trying to run Xy in a
DOS box, as I could not get rid of the lag between keypresses and the
appearance of the characters on screen.
