Just saw an interview with the just-retired CEO of IBM on Don Imus's talk
show. This chap apparently stopped IBM's lack of a central focus, which in
turn led it to abandon -- or to plan to spin off -- lots of projects that
it really should have hung onto. I gather (though it wasn't mentioned on
the program) that he arrived too late to reverse IBM's abandonment of the
joint project with XyWrite. *sigh*

AT&T is 'way down that road -- spinning off Western Electric and AT&T cable
are right down there with the really really dumb corporate moves of the
past fifty years.
