To the original poster:

I don't think that you need worry about this, and for two reason:
1) I'd be very surprised if you won't be able to modify the appro-
priate frame in U2 so as to accept _one_ space after a punctuation
mark that terminates a sentence; and 2) if worse comes to worse,
and you can't modify the XPL frame in question, don't invoke that
particular U2 utility in your writing.

By the way, I looked at Turabian again last evening (Turabian is a
version of the Chicago Manual of Style), and, while my copy dates
from the late 1960s, it very clearly states that _two_ spaces
follow an end of sentence punctuation mark. Now, I recognize that
this may not be what all publishers call for, but, as I recall,
consistency within an article or book, as regards these matters, is
more important than being technically correct, for as we are
noticing in these post, there is no agreement about what is correct.
