You don't have to go through Linux convolutions to use netbooks any more.

The first Asus netbooks had Linux only. Now, most of them also offer WIndows XP, although it's often
XP Home rather than Pro.

So do the many netbooks after Asus, like the well-reviewed MSI Wind and the Samsung NC-10. It seems
there's a new one being released daily.

To keep them small, what they all lack is an optical drive. As processor speeds, memory and storage
increase, the optical drive is the major tradeoff now between a netbook and a bigger laptop.
