XY to Word table conversion

I made a simple table in XY and wanted to "save as" it to Word, but it
turns out a little strange.
Instead of a table, what I get on the Word side is a 2-column list,
preceded by ">" for each entry. I can not edit this as a table, either.
While this is not totally unusuable, it is not what I wanted.
Is there a way around this?
