Re: TTG BBS printer files

Later than what? Carl and Robert have an HP DeskJet driver on their site,
but I think TTG pretty much stopped writing printer drivers with the LJ
4. I remember some threads at the time the LJ 5 came out, about various
problems getting it to work with the LJ 4 driver, and all TTG could
suggest was various tweaks. They were not about to write a new driver.
It's not just the XyW docs you have to worry about. Modern printers don't
come with real manuals. They come with operations guides, but you have to
pay through the nose for the real manual with the underlying page
description language (or whatever) explained. (Unlike my first printer,
an Epson RX-80, which had such a thorough manual that even I was able to
create case-fraction one-half and one-quarter characters, by putting the
printer in graphics mode, and then embed them in the XyW printer driver.)
If you can find a copy of Winn Rosch's Printer Bible in a library, he
gives a pretty complete, if not crystal-clear, rundown of HP PCL codes.
If you cannot find it, I'll lend you mine, though my confidence in the
Post Offal is nil.
