Warp, XyWrite, & Seasons Greetings

Hello fellow XyWriters,

Just a quick note to wish everyone happy holidays and to let you
know that I installed OS/2 Warp on my laptop last weekend
without any problems. I've converted the laptop to HPFS and will
not be using any Windows apps unless I have to. That means I
will go back to using XyW4(DOS) instead of XyWin. Warp seems an
improvement in a number of areas over 2.1 (the desktop graphics
especially) and XyW4 is running very nicely under it. I haven't
installed the Bonus Pack yet (lack of hard disk space) and will
probably not give the word processor in the BP a try. But I have
ordered Describe 5.0 and will be very curious to see what I gain
and lose compared to XyW. I continue to hope that TTG will put
some serious work into an OS/2 version of XyWrite (retaining, of
course, the command line). The market is, at the moment, wide
open and with the strong sales of Warp (and the just announced
further delay of Windows95), I would guess some serious
development will begin in the OS/2 applications area. There are
only three contenders in the wp arena I know of (aside from IBM
Works): Describe, Ami Pro, and Clearlook. The 1st is given good
reports, the second is apparently powerful but less developed
than the Windows version and the 3rd is new and untested but
said to be very promising. The time is ripe for XyWrite for
OS/2. But we don't need a port of the Windows version; we need a
full 32 bit, multi-threaded, WPS aware version. It could be a
killer app.

Best wishes to all and especial thanks to those (Nathan et al)
who got this list up and running. I have found it very useful.

Cheers,
John Gordon
