There is a utiity in XyWWWEB for OS/2 and long file names
though I see the VFAT Daniel Steiner link is expired.

Some might like the small (3k) BERKFIND on Simtel (always a good
source of DOS/Win3/Win95 shareware and those utilities you
need without a lot of extras.)
  Linkname: berkf100.zip
    URL:
     ftp://ftp.simtel.net/pub/simtelnet/msdos/fileutil/berkf100.zip
=- BerkFind 1.00 -- Advanced file finder -=
A DOS utility that can search a directory
or an entire drive for files based on their
names or on strings of text with the files.
Features a simple command line syntax, very
fast recursive search method, organized and
informative output, and the ability to find
hidden/system files and even files cloaked
with the volume attribute.

Linkname: Programming Long File Names in DOS (and TRUE DOS)

tells you more than you might want to know about long file
names.
Many links to programs, the documentation in PDF format etc.

WinNT namings. Updated as per 16 Decembermber 200

There is a nice dicussion at
Linkname: 4541 - Using LapLink DOS and Long File Names
    URL: http://www.laplink.com/support/kb/4541.asp
on the care of file names if using a DOS program such as
versions of Xy and saving to create a 'unique' name that
is careful to use the Win9x naming 'problems'

Linkname: IDG articles
    URL:
     http://server.idg.net/topbar?search=1&sc=59252698_13050&sh=11
finds articles from the Dummies books on file find, long file names etc.

Besides the well-known Tucows (www.tucows.com then find
and set your favourite mirror), you might keep
  #Linkname: Simtel.Net - Keith Petersen's Worldwide Shareware
  # Distribution Network
    lynx http://www.simtel.net/simtel.net/
on a bookmark.
Only one entry on Xywrite, but see the 37 files of the sister
program Notabene most of which may be useful for the antique
(but not archaic) Xy2, 3, 4 DOS users.
