No. There is no specific file. If you want italics, go to the command
line type md it F9, your text from the point of the cursor on is now in
italics. Now, put the cursor at the end of the material you want
italicized, go back to the command line, type md nm, press F9. Voila.

Depending on what version you're using you can also do this through
menus and/or use the MD+IT, MD-IT system if you prefer.
