One needn't resort to Linux to avoid these problems. I've been running OS/2
quite happily for many years. XyWrite runs just fine in a VDM (or in many
VDMs if I like). I have all the application software I need. And, it is
very stable. This way I avoid gates and windows. (A side benefit is that
I've never had a virus...)
