And I should have mentioned that my suggested settings were put together
with no COLORS setting in config.txt (all suggested COLORS settings
REMmed out).

I see that the vDosXy zip archive comes with a config.txt with color
settings already provided. The same basic technique should work with
these settings, but I put mine together with the default vDos color
settings.
