If you have Ala Carte, the "screen defaults" section lets you pick your colors--or shades of grey--and see what you're doing on screen. Better yet, the alacarte.dfl file is immune to subsequence changes in printer files. This is really the only significant use I've found for ALA, but it is helpful.
