Re: XYWRITE digest 917

Hello XyWriters-
I'm new to this list. I've used XyWrite since 1985, somewhat religiously and was happy to discover this list. Like many people, I rue the day Microsoft overpowered XyW and caused it to cease to exist. Unfortunately, I must coexist with people who use almost nothing but Microsoft products. Hence my question.
I work (as a hobby) as a consultant to the International Olympic Committee
compiling all the Olympic statistics for their web site. I've compiled
these stats for years in XyWrite. But they want the material sent to them
in MS Word for Windows. It involves thousands of files, so I really need
something that does batch conversion.
I have been using XyW 3.56 for years. I got 4 a few years ago but didn't
have time to spend with it and then the Technology Group folded so I stuck
with 3.56. I used to use Adobe Word for Word for conversions but when I
updated to Windows 2000, I could no longer get it to run, and even trying
to reload it did not work. As you likely know, Adobe no longer makes Word
for Word or supports it.
I have settled on Word Port which does very poor conversions in terms of
formatting. I end up having to reformat almost everything in MS Word -
takes forever. I have tried Nota Bene, and that works but it does not
allow batch conversion into MS Word, only into Nota Bene from some other
format.
So can this group help me? I realize the XyWWWeb page has a lot of XPL
programs, and it looks like the W4W drivers are in there. Nathan Sivins
also sent me some, but I may need a little more direction to get these to
work, as my early attempts did not. I no longer have any W4W code in my
computer that functions at all.
I'm fairly good with XPL, although not the expert that some people on this
list seem to be. I read XyWrite Revealed years ago, and written 1000s of
XPL programs, so with a little help I can get this to work, but I would
appreciate the help, if possible.
