VPT offers fine control over colors that Xy/DOS lacks, yet the two coexist
peacefully. What you do is establish basic color settings (B&W or close to it)
in Xy, then knock yourself out in VPT. When you arrive at a color scheme that's
satisfactory, VPT will save it to disk as a 49-byte file which can be loaded
from the DOS prompt or the CMline. You can have customized schemes for
different users, lighting conditions or personal moods. When I'm feeling
nostalgic I issue VPT GREEN for good ol' phosphorescent green text on a
black ground, with splashes of red and white on the CMline just because I can.
(The VPT CMline interface isn't in the public U2, but I'll post the frame if
anyone is interested. If anyone wants my Xy ;PR; color settings, I'll send
those as well.) Although VPT was designed for CRTs, I've used it to pleasing
effect with laptop screens as well.
