Actually, I wasn't so much thinking about drive letter _references_ (I agree portable is the way to go; just cannot get to doing it), as I was to the ill-advised practice of running DOS apps from (never mind keeping data on) one's C: drive. One single hard drive partition is an invitation to disaster.
