Re: XyWrite & Warp

Buy "OS/2 for Windows" v2.11 in the box which has a $50 rebate coupon sticker
on the shrinkwrap. Buy the 3.5 inch disk version, not the CD-ROM. Should cost
you between $18-25 at Egghead, Compuadd, wherever. Then look around for OS/2
v3.0. Lowest quote I've heard is $69. You may have to mail order it, because
it's mighty scarce in the stores. Get the CD-ROM version if possible --
install is MUCH easier. Then send in the coupon, Warp purchase receipt, and
some proof of purchase insignia on the box -- all the requirements are spelled
out on the coupon, and I gather that you have to follow them EXACTLY otherwise
they send the coupon back. Then reformat the 22 3.5 disks (IBM disks are very
good) from v2.1. Net cost to you is under $50. COnsidering the bonus pack
software alone is worth about $800, this is an incredible deal. There are some
wrinkles, like you have to make sure that Windows is already installed on your
machine, then you install Warp. If you want to run HPFS (Windows won't install
to HPFS, only FAT), you must install under DOS/Fat, then zip up the Windows
installation and put it on floppies or in a FAT partition, then install Warp
and format the HPFS partition, then unZip Windows. I have chosen not to do any
of this but to wait for Warp with Win-OS/2, which should be out this month.
Note that the coupon expires on 12/31/94, so it may be a close call.
