Mainly because -- in that scenario -- 8 Gb. of Ram would really make a difference.  For a more responsive VM, you would also want one of the more powerful processors.

I run some demanding programs, like InDesign, which I used for my 416-page
book. There were some glitches--which may have been memory, but I never saw
any indication that that was the cause.

If you need to use the full version of Photoshop, you probably should have
a 64-bit system.
