Re: Windows 10 upgrade

Flash,
I believe they use the information that was used to originally activate your Windows 7 or 8 license at first use. In short, I had to divulge nothing new except respond to the invitation to upgrade. It works as an update to a registered Windows 7 or 8 setup, which means it also can be easily reversed. If you wish to have a "clean install" of Windows 10, you must first go through the upgrade process, which keeps your applications, data, etc. and issues a new license linked to the machine, then download a copy of 10 to a bootable USB drive or DVD, and start afresh.

Hope this helps,

Bill
