Re: vDosPlus XyWrite 3.12 available

Hi Kari,

I have already made a special version of vDosPlus 2017.08.01 that works on Windows 2000. You can download it from the link below to replace the original file. For users of Windows XP or later, the standard vDosPlus executable is still recommended.

Hi Karl,

I just uploaded today's build of vDosPlus, i.e. build 2017.08.19 to the server before seeing your new installer. The changes include:

1. The LOW directive is added back for compatibility purposes.
2. New BLINKR directive for setting the cursor blinking rate (0-5; 0 is the fastest).

Also, please note that unlike (original) vDos 2017.08.01, vDosPlus 2017.08.01 *DOES* run in Windows XP. I will make a special version of this new vDosPlus that runs in Windows 2000 too. Perhaps you want to update the installer to include these versions instead.

Hello all,

There is a new installer ready for download based on build 2017.08.18,
first vDosPlus build of vDos Summer '17 (2017.08.01):

Hopefully soon also mirrored.

As vDos Summer '17 is only compatible with Windows Vista or later, I
have added Wengier's 'vDosPlus for Windows 2000' executives (based on
earlier vDos) in the installer. Thus, this installer supports even
Windows 2000 and XP. Windows 2000 support is quite useful when using the
product in a virtual machine under other platforms, e.g. Linux.

Other important changes:
- Win+Ctrl+C now copies text to clipboard from cursor position to end of
line as long as the fore/background colors do not change.
- Generally more robust and comprehensive pasting of Windows Clipboard text.
- Instead of 4DOS you can use an internal command processor which
results in an 4KB increase of conventional memory if you put SHELL4DOS =
OFF in your CONFIG.TXT.
- The LOW directive has been removed.
- A FPU (Floating-point unit) is added to the emulated CPU.
- Protected mode support and bare extended memory (XMEM-EXT) usage has
been rewritten.
- More progressive idle detection (lowering the real CPU/core load) and
responsive DOS mouse handling.
- Added SEL = "" option to select the default Windows printer.
- COLS/LINS directive in config.txt accepts larger maximum values.

Please note that there is even a newer vDosPlus build (2017.08.19). It
adds BLINKR directive and restores LOW. (LOW is not needed for XyWrite).

Enjoy!
