XyWrite for Windows

June 14, 2006
Regarding XyWrite for Windows, there have been complaints that it does not run under Windows XP. Since I am an XP user who recently obtained a copy of it, I want to share a setup that works for me. Those who are interested in getting XW.exe running under XP might want to give it a try.
First, two techniques do not work. Just creating a desktop short-cut to the
executable file (XW.exe) or a link to a batch file that calls for the
execution of that file. A desktop link to either does not work on my computer.

This is what works for me:
Create a link to CMD.EXE on your desktop. Most of you will probably have one already, in which case you can just use your mouse to create a copy by dragging.

To edit the new link, right click with your mouse and select "properties".

Fill in the command line as follows: ". . . cmd.exe And please note the pipe command "<". It is essential. Without it nothing
happens.

"w.bat" is a simple batch file that contains only 2 lines:
cd c:\xw
xw

Works like a charm for me.
Alternatively, one can put w.bat into the c:\ root directly and open the command window and type w.

No guarantees, but it is worth a try if you like XyWrite for Windows.
