Re: New York Times is at it Again

Look at the Technology index any day and you'll find
links to dozens of computer-related pieces that
the Times on the Web has published in the past week--
any week of the year. In that flood of www/computer
hype, one measly freelance think piece from a different
perspective is really all that objectionable? The Times
didn't even bother to link it to one of its reader forums.

And I must wonder if Amy Virshup was right about xyWrite
users existing in a time warp when someone writes of being
"particularly vexed" by a self-styled neo-Luddite's claim
(hardly central to his thesis) that another DOS word
processor is the fastest. It's getting hard to remember
a time when that mattered.

I urge anyone who missed Roszak's rather interesting essay
and is concerned about creativity, critical thinking,
computers, and education to take Tom
up on his offer to email it. Or, to get the piece directly
if you're registered, the url is:

http://verify.nytimes.com/library/tech/99/03/circuits/articles/11quil.html

Maybe *you* can figure out what the Times is "at" again.
Darned if I can. ... Ciao. --a
