It's neither. Default MG has nothing to do with the PRompts that Editor generates. Rather, it's a way to put your own MessaGe on the PRompt line, which displays whenever an error message is NOT there. You issue D/NV MG=Phone home! [or whatever] to put the MessaGe (if you omit /NV the MessaGe will be all CAPS), and D MG= to remove it.

There's no VAriable that captures the last-displayed PRompt, alas.
