I've had persistent trouble with that routine too, ever since it was
introduced. Something is wrong with it (Carl says it works fine for him).

NOTE WELL!!! If you're going to eliminate it (which is fine, as long as you
only boot the installation on one Operating System), you MUST nevertheless
replace it with it's own proper RESULT, which serves to identify to U2 your
OpSys -- and that's a *must must must do*. And that result is what follows --
you need to insert this in STARTUP.INT at roughly the same spot in processing:

;*; on one line, by itself, with REAL guillemets

Type it EXACTLY as above, except for the guillemets fore and aft. The above is
for WinXP. The other three-letter identifiers are (last three letters of the
Save/Get:

W95
W98
WNT
W2K
OS2
LUX <==Unix/Linux/Knoppix/Knuckles/NoKnocks
[MAC, but not under VPC emulation -- whatever is being emulated, obviously]
