Re: Windows 2000 question

This is a recently refurbished machine with a Pentium 2.66 Ghz chip and 1 gigabyte of RAM which should be plenty of speed and plenty of RAM.
Computer Express loaded some free software, AVG Free, SpyBot Search, Nero SmartStart, AdAware SE, Easy Photo Print and Cyberlink Power DVD. I've since added an early edition of Works 3.0, Office 2000, AOL 9.0, Yahoo Messenger, DtSearch 6.0, and Internet Explorer.
Task Manager said 28 processes are running. When I evoke the Task Manager , it briefly says that CPU load is 100%, but then drops to zero in a split second. The system idle process under CPU -- whatever that is -- goes back and forth between 97 and 99.
I"m not sure what to tweak at this point.
The problem developed before I loaded any additional software.
Given how well XyWrite ran under Windows 98 with much less RAM and a much slower chip, I'm surprised that it's so incredibly slow in Windows 2000..
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
