XyWIN 4.12 Changes

eetings,

Following a pleasant excahnge with Keven and Britt at TTG I have
have their permission to post two documents. The first (below)
is a list of changes in xyWIN 4.12 (over 4.11). The second,
which I'll post separately, describes the xydos 4.016 update.

   February 16, 1995

   Dear Customer:

We are pleased to offer you XyWrite IV for Windows, version 4.12.
Below are the enhancements made in this version.

? We developed a XyWrite printer file for the HP Color LaserJet.
? We added scoping options to the bottom of the Line Spacing dialog,
    under Format menu.
? We changed the Carriage Return accelerator from "g" to "i" in the
Custom Separators dialog. (Menu path: Advanced/Mail Merge/Options.
Click on the Modify Field or Record Separators radio button. Click
on the Define Custom pushbutton. Also,
Advanced/Preferences/Defaults. Choose Mail Merge from the list
box. Click on the Define Custom pushbutton.)
? The Special Character dialogs display WYSIWYG characters. (Note:
ASCII 07 will not display in WYSIWYG mode in the dialog box.)1
(Menu path: Insert/Other/Special Characters. Click on any of the
radio buttons listed in Special Character dialog.)
≪1 Note: The enhancement to the Insert Character dialogs required
changing the format of the user character set. If you previously
added characters to the user defined set, you must first clear them
(Ctrl+A, Alt+C) and add then add the new characters that you
   require.≫

? We resized and repositioned the Spelling dialog box to prevent it
    from covering flagged words.
? We redesigned the Outline dialogs to make them easier to use.
(Menu path: Insert/Outline/Define. Button path: Click on the
Outline Button Set button. Click on the Set Up an Outline button.)
? We redesigned most of the buttons in the button sets.
? We adjusted spacing in the Indents and Tabs dialog to prevent the
bottom radio buttons from blending together.
? We added a help frame for the Custom Separators dialog. (Menu
path: Advanced/Mail Merge/Options. Click on the Modify Field or
Record Separators radio button. Click on the Define Custom
    pushbutton. Also, Advanced/Preferences/Defaults. Choose Mail
Merge from the list box. Click on the Define Custom pushbutton.)
? We removed a note from the Custom Separators help frame indicating
that custom separators cannot be created or viewed in the menus.
They can now be created and viewed.
? We added a help frame for the second Data Input for Mail Merge
dialog. (Menu path: Advanced/Mail Merge/Input Data. Fill in the
text boxes and press Enter. Press Enter again to advance to the
    second Data Input dialog.)
? We added a help frame for the Resume Info dialog. (Menu path:
File/Log Session. Choose Restore Session. Click on the Info
    pushbutton.)
? We moved headings from the dialog boxes to the title bars.
? We changed the background color for the button bar from dark grey
    to light grey.
? We added 'ty' to the internal suffix list so words such as
    "capability" hyphenate properly.
? We now use the ANSI character set when building dialog boxes.
? We updated the Mastersoft conversion filters.
? We added import filters for: Paradox 3.5 and 4.0, Excel 4.0 and
5.0, WordPerfect 6.0, Word for Windows 6.0, and Microsoft Rich Text
    (RTF) 1.0.
? We added import and export filters for Ami Pro 3.0.

Below are the bugs that have been fixed in version 4.12.

? Clicking on the End Outline button yielded "A menu subroutine is
    missing".
? Marking the Image Mode check box in the Print dialog yielded "A
    menu subroutine is missing".
? In the New dialog, choosing a default template file and then
deleting it from the template directory prevented a new file from
    being created via the menus.
? In the Format Text dialog, if the "Show Left Page Margin on Screen
in Page-Line View" check box was not marked, the default OD (Offset
    Display) value changed.
? Choosing Color from the Type Style cascading menu yielded "A menu
    subroutine is missing".
? Creating an envelope using a Windows printer driver left a stray
closed parenthesis ")" in the envelope file.
? The accelerator key for Delete Current Style conflicted with the
    accelerator key for Library.
? Deleting a style from the menus deleted the style regardless of
    response to the confirmation box.
? In the Indents/Tabs dialog, the IP (Indent Paragraph) value could
not be changed to (0,0,0) if it had previously been set to a non-
    zero value.
? With a XyWrite PostScript driver loaded, changing the type size of
a style command caused the US (Use Style) command to truncate.
? The menus did not check for duplicate style names, causing existing
    styles to be overwritten.
? In the Save As dialog, marking the Switch to New File check box and
choosing a file format other than XyWrite IV caused the Save As
dialog to reappear without an error message.
? Choosing Keep Together while text is selected in a file caused the
highlight to appear on an incorrect radio button in the dialog.
? If the default UA (User Access)=1 and a type style was chosen, the
    UA value changed to 0.
? Changing either the custom field or record separators changed both
    separators.
? Importing or opening an ASCII (Native Code Page) file yielded the
error "Conversion file not installed for ASCII (Native Code Page)".
? Choosing the Custom radio button in the Print Envelope dialog
yielded "SX command requires a number".
? Help frames for the Spelling dialog referenced Skip Once and Skip
All rather than Ignore and Ignore All.
? Executing the Search and Replace dialog caused a lock up when
running with a high resolution monitor (over 800x600).
? If a word was added to PERS.SPL and was misspelled in a file,
alternates were not presented during a spell check.
? If the default unit of measure for the ruler was not inches, the
    ruler displayed in inches.
? If the default unit of measure for the ruler was not inches, the
ruler displayed in the correct unit of measure in window #1, but in
    inches in all other windows.
? Inconsistent capitalization and punctuation appeared in various
    error boxes.
? The template file _HOWTO.TPL contained several spelling errors.
? Files remained in Expanded view after spell checking or using the
    thesaurus.
? If the default unit of measure for the ruler was not inches, the
tabs stops did not match the ruler by a factor of 20%.
? Units of measure for the ruler could only be changed once on the
    ruler.
? Rounding errors occurred when converting units of measure.
? Printing multiple files with a Windows printer driver caused a lock
    up.
? Adjusting margin markers on the ruler caused them to snap back to
    their original position.
? In a column table, hitting the Enter key near a page break
    occasionally caused a lockup.
? Using line numbering in a column table did not track line numbers
    properly.
? The "Protection Violation" message box did not allow you to recover
    from a lockup.
? In a column table, cursor position was occasionally lost and text
    appeared in reversed order.
? Superscript Numbers (SC) in styles displayed numbers (0 or 1)
    instead of mode mnemonics.
? ANSI characters did not display correctly in dialogs.
? XyWrite IV did not handle XyWrite III Plus Type 1 frames.
? Clicking on various Help pushbuttons yielded "Invalid Keyword".
? Various child dialog boxes did not clear the screen upon execution.
? Mail merge using a Windows dot matrix printer driver only printed
the first record correctly. All subsequent records printed with
    exaggerated spacing and left offset.
? Cutting text to the clipboard from another application and pasting
that text in XyWrite caused a lock up.
? In redline mode, inserted text displayed as normal text.
? Line numbers did not print when using a Windows printer driver.
? Printing a line numbered page from a multi-page document caused the
line numbering to start at the last number on the previous page.
? In Page-Line view, defining a 20K block of text and deleting it
didn't refresh the screen. Phantom text appeared on screen and the
    system appeared locked.
? Text did not print on the same line it was displayed on in Page-
    Line view.
? The menus inserted PB (Paper Begin) codes one number off (e.g.,
    PB123 instead of PB122.)
? Creating a snaked column or column table with HY (hyphenation)=1
yielded "Cannot create columns in a table".
? Defining text that included two consecutive carriage returns did
not define the last second carriage return. This bug only occurred
    in Graphic view.
? Using the IR (Insert Replacement) function call yielded "A menu
    subroutine is missing".
   ? Choosing Advanced/Preferences/Defaults/Spelling inserted "SX02,@IN"
in a file or on the command line.
? With a Windows printer driver loaded, the Print dialog box
displayed "none" next to the cartridge item when one or more
    cartridges were loaded.
? The typeface list box did not display all available fonts.
? The thesaurus presented an empty list of alternates for words
    without synonyms..
? With UWF (Use Windows Fonts)=3, calling a file containing extended
    characters caused a lock up.

Below are other changes made in 4.12.

? We removed the Define pushbutton from the Apply Style dialog.
? We removed the Remember Format check box from the bottom of the
Import Graphic dialog. It is no longer supported.
? We removed the Remember Format check box from the Open dialog box.
    It is no longer supported.
? We removed the text import and export filters for Multimate,
    Framework, and Final Form Text.
