OK. Let's see. Where to start? How did you install XyWrite -- with
standard installation diskettes? You didn't select a printer?? What
version of Xy4DOS are you using (type HELP on the CMline to find
out)? Do you have a file called STARTUP.INT in the same directory as
EDITOR.EXE? Do you have a file called SETTINGS.DFL in the same ditto?

I want you to do three things. First, go to:

http://users.datarealm.com/xywwweb/

and search for "660C". Download HPDJ660C.ZIP, unZIP HPDJ660C.PRN, and
locate it the same dir as EDITOR. This is the most modern DJ PRiNter
file, and should yield reasonable results with your 692.

Second, open SETTINGS.DFL. Go to EOF (end-of-file). The last few lines
should specify various PRiNter files, and should be preceded by a "PP:n"
spec, where "n" is a number equal to the number of lines of printer files.
Possibly you have only one, or even none. Anyway, insert this line within
the stanza, if there is one -- if there isn't, then create one:

#{tab_char}d:\XY4\HPDJ660C.PRN{tab_char}HP DeskJet 660C Color

where "#" is the number of the LPT port to which your DJ 692 is attached.
Then adjust the "PP:n" to reflect the new number of lines specified. It
might say something like this:

PP:2
1	D:\XY4\HPDJ660C.PRN	HP DeskJet 660C Color
3	D:\XY4\HPLJ2FAX.PRN	HP LaserJet Series II for Fax

Third, open up STARTUP.INT and see if you load a printer file therein
(SEarch for "PRN"). If so, comment out the current PRN file (put ";*;"
at the beginning of the line that loads the PRN file); and in any case,
whatever the pre-existing situation, add a new line (or change the one that
currently exists):

BX setp 1Q2 ;*;

The number in "setp 1" means that you are setting the first-listed printer
in the PP stanza as active, per the PP:2 example above (if you weanted
to load the fax driver, you'd say "setp 2" -- in this way, you can
change printers on-the-fly). Adjust that number for your own setup!

Copy an existing line in STARTUP.INT that has proper functions BX and
Q2; or command PFUN BX and PFUN Q2 to insert them into your file. There's
an alternate form of this command that might pre-exist: "BX (setp 1)".

After XyWrite loads, command "va/nv $PR" to double-check that HPDJ660C.PRN
is actually loaded! If it doesn't say "HPDJ660C.PRN", then you've fucked
something up, so go back and recheck -- or report back here.

Now, *use the menus*, go to Format ==> Typeface, and select one of the
listed typefaces and type sizes. Try printing, and let me know the
result. Good luck.
