I have a router with a regular XP home network on it for my wife and me. Do I understand that this little box is something that I could attach an ethernet cable to, plug it into the router, plug the printer into it, too, then print from either computer on the network to the printer that's plugged into it?
You can do that already, if the printer is declared shared. The
advantage of the server box is that you can leave the printer and
it on, and then print to it even if the PC that the printer was
formerly connected to is turned off. (The gals in the office
cannot remember that you cannot print to a printer if the PC it's
connected to is not turned on. We don't have a print server box,
because the printer is parallel, and I haven't seen any parallel
server boxes cheap enough.)
