Re: Nota Bene

I'm running NB 6.0 under WinXP (on a pentium 4), use it routinely, and it
is working like a charm--much better than it did under Win 98. Long file
names is one thing that works in XP but did not in 98. I know there exist
some bugs--which are being fixed in upcoming 6.1--but I have not myself
tripped over them.
I came to NBWin from XyWrite, use the XY kbd, etc.. Have done only a little
XPL. NBWin 5.x, at least on Win 98 (first edition, I guess) was pretty
buggy. I'm quite happy with NB 6.0.

Does anyone have experience with a recent version of NB running under
W2000/XP? My understanding is that at least early versions were pretty
buggy. Their tech support people claim that the program is basically
100% compatible with XyWrite.
There was a discussion here within the last year about the screen problems
in NBWin. I do not remember the technical details, but (someone please
come to my rescue on this!) the program has -- as I vaguely remember the
discussion -- two different standards for displaying text and this caused
the problems. If this is what you mean by *compatible,* then it was not.
Since then they have welcomed aboard a Xywrite veteran. Whether his work
had corrected the display problems, I can not say. The best place for
information is the Note Bene list, a congenial place with many people who
swear by the program and have made it work.
