It turns out that Tim Baehr, one of our former Xyquestrians, wrote
an Incremental Search routine that was up to version 10 in 1996!
Tim sent it to me privately; I've put it here:

It works! Thanks, Tim.

P.S. The program requires the menus/dialogs -- either the factory-
issued ones or Tim's Enhanced version -- to be loaded. Most people
load one or the other at startup, so there's likely to be no prep
necessary.
