Re: A radical idea: a new XyWrite

Some thoughts I'd like to share (prompted by the recent discussions):

I am a DOS NB3 user, and I must say that Windows NB is not the answer.
NB has different priorities. (Even NB4 for DOS was a big disappointment
for me with its partly closed architecture). The NB loyal customer base
is mainly academics versed in rather esoteric subjects and languages.
(E.g. there are options for biblical scholars and classicists of
Akkadian, Ugaritic, Syriac, and Coptic).

There are better alternatives to Word than Word itself, namely SoftMaker
Office (http://www.softmaker.com/en/softmaker-office-windows). It even
has Linux and Mac versions.

As to PDF software, Foxit is a good candidate for general business users
(maybe not for graphics professionals). (https://www.foxitsoftware.com/)

It is maybe possible to create a modern XyWrite-compatible program by
other means than getting the source code. It is lot a work. Similar
exploits have been done: dBase compiler Clipper now exists as a modern
Windows version (Harbour). (https://harbour.github.io/)
