Thanks Kari.  I'll look into that.  I think the 'No Update Notices' setting was disclosed on the list previously, but I'll do a search for that too.  I still want to look around to find out if there remain any surviving, generally compatible forks or alternates, besides this one.  (At one time there were a few.)  Some time ago I was a user of SeaMonkey.  Word on that has been mixed, for awhile now.

You might want to consider Firefox ESR:
https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/

This extended support release does not follow the speedy cycle of
consumer releases. You will have more time to adjust to anything that is
in the works.
